Grants have been awarded to develop energy efficient building codes, deploy solar and renewable technologies, promote the use of alternative fuels, promote industrial, and building efficiency.
The Department of Energy's goal is to advance national, economic and energy security in the U.S.; to promote scientific and technological innovation in support of that goal; and to ensure environmental cleanup of the national nuclear weapons complex.
Multiple grants will be awarded annually. Successful projects will assist in the increased deployment of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and practices.
Uses and Use Restrictions
Financial support, in whole or in part, may be provided for salaries, materials, and supplies, equipment, travel, publication costs, and services required for implementing the activities described in the application.

All States plus the District of Columbia, the U.S.
Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam, Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands may apply.

Award Procedures
Evaluations will be conducted by staff of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy end-use sectors participating in the annual solicitation. Final decisions to approve are made by Assistant Secretary Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. DOE Field Offices are then instructed to negotiate and prepare the grant award documents.

Costs will be verified and subject to audit according to standard government practice and in accordance with OMB Circular Nos. A-102 and A-133. In accordance with the provisions of OMB Circular No. A-133 (Revised, June 27, 2003), "Audits of States, Local Governments, and Non-Profit Organizations," nonfederal entities that expend financial assistance of $500,000 or more in Federal awards will have a single or a program-specific audit conducted for that year. Nonfederal entities that expend less than $500,000 a year in Federal awards are exempt from Federal audit requirements for that year, except as noted in Circular No. A-133.
