Spring River to Reduce Bacteria Levels

A state grant amounting to more than $300,000 has been awarded to the Jasper County Commission. The grant will be used to reduce bacteria levels along Spring River in the Carthage area since high levels of E. coli have been found in the river.


The project includes programs to educate the public on water quality, cost-sharing programs to encourage proper operation of septic tanks, cost-sharing to develop ways to limit water runoff into streams in agricultural areas, and demonstration projects such as rain barrels and rain gardens.
