UNC Hip Hop Initiative Scores State Grant

The U.S. Department of State supports University of North Carolina's music department-led international hip-hop initiative by awarding a $1 million grant.


The two-year grant will enable a group of American artists to travel to six countries to teach hip-hop to young people in areas of conflict, as well as support several courses in the music department and cover tuition costs.
