Fiscal Year 2009: Student Internships: Under the pilot program, 28 students were placed in internship positions in 10 agencies including Georgia State Department and Federal Aviation Administration and several private entities. Four graduating interns were considered for transportation-related employment opportunities. Town Hall Meetings: Spelman College hosted two town hall meetings with 148 Small women-owned business/DBEs and 20 interns in attendance. The feedback that was captured during the town hall meetings resulted in creating the Training and Technical Assistance Workshops. Training and Technical Assistance Workshops: Training Workshops were held for small women-owned businesses and women and girls aspiring to become transportation-related entrepeneours to include the following topics as the major areas of training: (1) Short Term Lending and Bonding Assistance Program; (2) Certification for S/WOBs/DBEs; (3) American Recovery and Reinvestment Act; (3) Basic Accounting and Information Technology. A total of 129 S/WOBs/DBEs participated in the training Case Studies: Spelman developed relevant cases to address issues related to transportation; such as effective ways of how S/WOBs/DBES overcome different barriers to make their companies successful. The cases will be used to develop future relevant programs to meet the needs of women and girls aspiring to enter the transportation-related industry. Fiscal Year 2010: The pilot program ended in the 2nd quarter of FY 2010. OSDBU will evaluate the program results to formulate and implement the non-pilot Entrepreneurial Training and Technical Assistance Women and Girls Program. Fiscal Year 2011: No Current Data Available
Uses and Use Restrictions
Financial assistance under this section may be used to design and carry out programs to encourage and assist women and girl students at all levels of education to pursue opportunities in the transportation-related industry and provide them with the education and tools necessary to seize those opportunities and become successful transportation-related contractors through the use of internships and outreach activities.
