Uses and Use Restrictions
Faculty Scholar grants are issued to outstanding United States professors to teach one or more courses in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEMM) fields in a Vietnamese university.
The assistance is intended to fund the costs required to travel to Vietnam, fund the materials required to teach the course, and compensate the professor for his/her time, among other allowable expenses described in the grant letter issued to accepted Faculty Scholars.
All assistance can only be granted to U. S. citizens who are Associate or full Professors, and can only be used for purposes of teaching courses in the STEMM fields in a Vietnamese institution, as described above.

Credentials/Documentation
Applicants must be an Associate or Full Professor at an accredited U.S. educational institution and must submit an application using the Vietnam Education Foundation"s Online Management System. They must submit a C.V., a course description, and a Supporting Letter from their U.S. institution, and a Commitment Letter from each host Vietnamese university. This program is excluded from coverage under OMB Circular No. A-87.

Applications are screened to ensure that they meet the minimum eligibility requirements.
Eligible applications then undergo a technical review by peers.
Finalists are interviewed by phone to verify their preparation to teach in Vietnam.

The staff in Hanoi provides an orientation and visits the grant recipient"s class at least once.

Criteria for Selecting Proposals
(1) Academic qualifications to teach the proposed course(s)
(2) Prior experience in international education
(3) Quality of the proposed teaching plan, including:
a. Appropriate selection of course(s) and teaching location(s)
b. Clear plan of teaching and training
c. Effective use of resources
(4) Likelihood of capacity building at the Vietnamese university
(5) Likelihood of sustainable outcomes, such as improved teaching methods and ongoing partnerships
(6) Commitment of support from the Vietnamese and U.S. institutions.
