Radiation protection of workers and the public by state and local radiation control programs

The purpose of this NOFO is to continue to support state and local radiation control programs by leveraging their collective knowledge and expertise to support addressing radiological health issues of mutual interest.

This project will be executed using a multi-faceted approach that includes joint

working groups assigned to address specific issues, participating in committee and annual meetings to present and discuss issues of mutual interest, share information on new developments in the various areas of radiation protection as well as sharing challenges and seeking recommendations through collaboration with other state and local radiation subject matter expertise.

The NOFO will support the development of guidance, recommendations, suggested state regulations and exchange of information in an effort to increase the existing tools, knowledge, and capabilities for radiological health staff throughout the country.

Because many State radiation control programs have very limited resources to tackle the public health issues that impact their communities, it is anticipated this funding will leverage and help increase their collective capabilities to assure radiation protection of the public and workers.

Funding this project will result in an overall reduction of risk, illness, and death associated with unnecessary exposure to radiation.
