The McNair Program is one of the seven programs collectively known as the Federal TRIO Programs.

The McNair Program awards discretionary grants to institutions of higher education for projects designed to provide disadvantaged college students with effective preparation for doctoral study.

Required services under the McNair Program are specified in sections 402E(b) of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA) (20 U.S.C.

1070a-15), and permissible services under the McNair Program are specified in section 402E(c) of the HEA.
