Science of Artificial Intelligence and Learning for Open-world Novelty (SAIL-ON)

The Defense Sciences Office (DSO) of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is soliciting innovative research proposals for new AI methodologies and techniques that support (1) the principled characterization and generation of novelty in open worlds and (2) the creation of AI systems capable


of operating appropriately and effectively in open worlds.

Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, devices, or systems.

Specifically excluded is research that primarily results in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice.
