The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), an independent agency created by Congress in 1974, regulates the nation's civilian use of byproduct, source, and special nuclear materials to ensure adequate protection of public health and safety, to promote the common defense and security, and to

protect the environment.This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is issued by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Office of Small Business and Civil Rights (SBCR) to fund Minority Serving Institutions’ (MSIs) programs and activities, projects, symposiums, and training for the exchange and transfer of knowledge and skills relevant to nuclear safety, security, environmental protection, or any other fields the Commission deems critical to its mission.

It is also to provide assistance for MSI programs and activities to include, but not limited to, mentoring, leadership development, training, education, instruction, developmental learning, research and development, program evaluation, technical assistance, and recruitment.

Funding through issuance of this announcement is also to provide assistance to include direct institutional subsidies, facilities and equipment acquisition, internships, fellowships, scholarships, stipends, travel, tuition, housing and other types of assistance.
