The purpose of this program is to fund activities that will support the future development of the National Internet Crimes Against Children Data System (NIDS).
Pursuant to the PROTECT Act, the Department of Justice (DOJ), in partnership with other federal, state, and local law enforcement partners
is required to develop and implement the National Internet Crimes against Children Data System.
The purpose of NIDS is to allow credentialed users, including federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officers investigating and prosecuting child exploitation, to contribute and access data for use in resolving case conflicts; link or provide a dynamic undercover system to facilitate online law enforcement investigations of child exploitation; and facilitate development of essential software and network capability for law enforcement participants to report on case information on a national level.
Additionally, NIDS will permit the real-time analysis of data to facilitate identification of targets and to estimate the size of the law enforcement effort to address these crimes.
