Evaluation of Transverse Feature Design Options

The objective of the proposed work would be to continue this collaboration with the end goal of improving the design guidelines and tools to help the field practitioner.

The work would include technical documentation of a current physical model study and the creation, calibration, and validation

of a 3-dimensionl hydraulic model of transverse features to facilitate more in depth evaluation of critical transverse feature design options.

The technical documentation of a current physical model study involves looking at the effects of modeling bendway weirs in the native channel geometry (as described in this document) compared to spur dikes and vanes (previously modeled structures).

The 3-d hydraulic modeling would be calibrated and validated with previously collected data from the physical scale models.

This work would result in improved design guidance and equations to help better design transverse features in the field and provide insight on the level of infrastructure protected and fish habitat created.
