US DOT seeks competitive grant applications from institutions of higher education located only in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, or Wyoming to establish and operate the Region 8 University Transportation Center (UTC).
A UTC must be a consortium of two or more institutions
of higher education all located in CO, MT, ND, SD, UT, or WY, led by one institution of higher education, and institutions may include qualifying two-year institutions (20 U.S.C.
§ 1001(a)).
The Center is required to obtain matching funds in an amount equal to the US DOT award amount.US DOT asks applicants to submit a Letter of Intent, as described in the Notice of Funding Opportunity, by July 5, 202 3. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (P.
L.
117-58, November 15, 2021) authorizes the Secretary of Transportation to make grants to establish and operate University Transportation Centers.
The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (OST-R) of the U. S. Department of Transportation (US DOT) manages the UTC Program.
Selection of the Region 8 UTC was not made as part of a previous FY 2022 UTC Program competition, so this opportunity re-opens that competition in order to award just this one Region 8 grant.
