Reducing Marine Litter in the Wider Caribbean

The Office of Ocean and Polar Affairs of the Bureau of Oceans, Environment, and Science (OES) at the Department of State announces an open competition to support regional and local initiatives in the Wider Caribbean Region that will reduce the amount of marine litter and debris released into waters of

the Caribbean region, and/or mitigate the environmental impact of marine debris/litter.





This announcement invites organizations to submit proposals addressing the objectives referenced above.

Total funding available is $123,75 0. The Office of Ocean and Polar Affairs anticipates funding a single grant award from competition.

However, the grantee may elect to distribute the grant funds among various sub-projects.

International and U. S. Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) with experience in the region are eligible to submit proposals for these grant funds.

Additional Information of Eligibility:
OES/OPA expects to award a single grant of $123,750; however various projects may be included under this single grant.

Preference will be given to a U.S.-based or international NGO that partners with a local Caribbean-based NGO for all or part of this project.

Preference may also be given to projects that are transferable to other islands within the Wider Caribbean, that engage both the public and private sectors, and that are likely to lead to continuing long-term efforts to combat this type of pollution.
