Coral Reef Resilience: Train the Trainers Workshops
The Office of Ecology and Natural Resource Conservation of the Bureau of Oceans, Environment, and Science (OES) at the Department of State announces a Request for Applications for management and implementation of the Coral Reef Resilience:
Train the Trainers Workshops.
The goal of this initiative is to utilize and disseminate curriculum developed by the U. S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) to train coral reef managers in adaptive management strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change on reef survival.
The selected applicant will coordinate the development and implementation of the trainers workshop and assist with subsequent follow-up workshops, which the trainer workshop participants will organize in their home areas.
This announcement seeks applicants, either individually or collectively, from NGOs, research institutions, and colleges and universities both domestic and foreign.
The training should include classroom presentations, field exercises, and opportunities for managers to share their ideas and experiences about techniques to increase coral reef resilience in the face of climate change.
Funds will support a four day international train-the-trainers workshop for 10 to 20 attendees who sign contracts to attend the train-the-trainers workshop and hold at least one follow-up training in their home area.
One third of the funding will be used for the train the trainer workshop; airfare, translation and interpretation services, venue costs, and meals for participants and instructors.
Two-thirds will provide seed funds to the trainees to help defray the cost to organize and implement follow-up workshops.Applicants should also include in the proposal mechanisms for partnering or engaging with other institutions to leverage available funds.
Proposals should demonstrate creativity, substance, and relevance to the Departments mission of promoting coral reef conservation, ecosystem-based fisheries management and/or ecologically viable tourism communities.
Total U. S. Department of State funding for this grant is $198,00 0. The Grantee is expected to provide cash or in-kind cost sharing.
Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) and International Organizations (IOs) that can meet requirements of sections 1 and 3 are encouraged to submit proposals.

Additional Information of Eligibility:
The Department encourages organizations that have not previously received international programming funding from the U. S. Government to apply under this announcement.
Eligibility is limited to not-for-profit/nongovernmental organizations subject to 501 (c) (3) of the tax code and international organizations.
Applicants must supply evidence that they have at least two years of demonstrated expertise in the following subject areas: coral reef ecosystems, coral reef management, institutional capacity building, and training in conservation techniques or methodology.
