Job Fair for Young Women Journalists
The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U. S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan is pleased to announce an open competition for assistance awards through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).
PAS Kabul invites all eligible organizations to submit a proposal for conducting a one-week professional training seminar and subsequently implementing a job fair for female journalism students and recently-graduated women journalists.
This NOFO is soliciting proposals to prepare and implement a job fair.
Afghan women journalists are a minority in their field and often face difficulties in competing for employment.
A job fair geared towards young women in the journalism field would provide internship and employment opportunities, as well as a platform for the women to network with potential employers.
In preparation for the job fair, the recipient will develop course materials and conduct training in Afghanistan on networking skills for 100 young female journalism students and recently-graduated/unemployed female journalists.
In the autumn of 2016, the grantee will have these same young women meet potential employers at a job fair.
The last three months of the grant would require a follow-on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) component to determine how many of the attendees were invited for interviews, and how many secured actual internships, job offers, and/or employment.
The key underlying emphasis of these activities should support the advancement of women as equal members of society by providing educated women with opportunities to develop new skills and acquire/apply new knowledge in order to be competitive in the journalism job market.

Additional Information of Eligibility:
This project will be funded by Economic Support Funds and authorized by the Foreign Assistance Act and is subject to the statutory limitations of such funding.
Eligibility is open to all types of applicants except for 1) individuals and 2) government entities.
Please refer to Section D for funding restrictions.
Organizations may sub-contract with other entities, but only one entity can be the prime recipient of the award.
When sub-contracting with other entities, the responsibilities of each entity must be clearly defined in the proposal.
