National Food and Agricultural Sciences Teaching, Extension, and Research Awards

This program recognizes outstanding college faculty in agriculture, natural resources, veterinary and human sciences.

Launched in 1992, this program recognizes outstanding college professors of agriculture, natural resources, veterinary and human sciences.

A selection committee of nationally


recognized teachers and scholars choose two national recipients, two early career recipients, and two teaching and student engagement recipients.There are also six regional awards.

Nominees are evaluated based on their ability as instructors, educational innovation, service to students, professionalism and scholarship.This is a partnership among NIFA, the recipient of the National Awards for Excellence in College and University Teaching in the Food and Agricultural Sciences Program (TERA) Award, and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU).Educators can be nominated by using the "Teaching Awards Guidelines" and "Teaching Awards Nomination Form" found on the National Awards for Excellence resources page.

Eligibility Requirements Applicants for the National Food and Agricultural Sciences Teaching, Extension, and Research Awards (TERA) program must meet all the requirements discussed in this RFA.

Failure to meet the eligibility criteria by the application deadline may result in exclusion from consideration or, preclude NIFA from making an award.

For those new to Federal financial assistance, NIFA’s Grants Overview provides highly recommended information about grants and other resources to help understand the Federal awards process.

Applications may only be submitted by colleges and universities having a demonstrable capacity to carry out the teaching of food and agricultural science.

Duplicate or Multiple Submissions – duplicate or multiple submissions is not allowed.

NIFA will disqualify both applications if an applicant submits duplicate or multiple submissions.
