Defense Production Act (DPA) Title III - High Strength, Inherently Fire and Ballistic Resistant Co-polymer Aramid Fibers Industrial Capability Project

The objective of this project is to develop and integrate processing technologies and demonstrate the ability to manufacture a high strength aramid copolymer fiber that is inherently fire and ballistic resistant capable of being made into durable, lightweight, environmentally insensitive materials for

personal protective systems against ballistic, blast and flame/thermal threats.

The contractor must demonstrate the capability of producing up to one million pounds per year by the end of the program.

Deliverables in support of demonstrations and validation of processing and performance metrics will include quantities of fiber, yarn, woven shootpacks and unidirectional layups, described in further detail in subsequent sections.

In addition to physical deliverables for demonstration, other deliverables include processing data, e.g.

coagulation bath temperatures, stretching, drawing, take-up speeds, draw ratios, etc.
