RECOVERY ACT, DOI, National Park Service, Install Gates to Protect Visitors and Preserve Resource Habitat at Various Mines, Joshua Tree National Monument

National Park Service Recovery Act Project.

The NPS intends to make a non-competitive award in accordance with DOI Policy, Departmental Manual 505DM2, to Soonoma State University under an existing Cooperative Agreement.

Joshua Tree National Monument is planning on making safe 23 abandoned


mine sites with a total of 40 openings.

They are slated for closure using either bat-compatible enclosures, polyurethane foam, or backfill with waste rock.

These mines are historic therefore prior to safing work the Park will conduct under this Task Agreement limited archaeological work to include identifying staging area(s) best to avoid impacts to the cultural resources at these mines, defining the APE, and producing a basic recording of the mine openings and features in the immediate area so that impacts can be minimized.
