Wolf-Moose Cataloging Project

This project is with Michigan Technological University (MTU).

The researchers at Michigan Technological University have been working with Isle Royale National Park for 60 years on studying the wolf-moose interactions and dynamics.

Items collected are currently housed and stored at MTU.

MTU

is uniquely qualified due to the long-standing cooperation on this project and they currently hold the items.

This cooperative project would:
1) provide baseline documentation for a significant NPS natural history collection, 2) complete accessioning and ICMS cataloging of the collection (specimens and associated field notes and records), 3) clean and preserve bone collections, 4) house the collection in conditions that will promote their long term preservation, 5) make the collection accessible to researchers and the public through ICMS, and 6) enhance the existing partnership between the NPS and Michigan Technological University for the long-term care, preservation, and accountability of over 60 years of specimens and data associated with the wolf moose study.

The work will take place primarily on the MTU campus under the direction of an NPS museum technician.
