Grand Canyon National Park March 2014 Shinumo Logistics with Grand Canyon River Outfitters Association

Statement of Joint Objectives/Project Management Plan:
The purposes of the project are to collaboratively protect and conserve the aquatic resources within Grand Canyon National Park, including the completion of the following joint objects:
1)continue to monitor native and non-native species in


the upper reaches of Shinumo Creek using electrofishing gear; 2) remove non-native rainbow trout; 3) perform winter maintenance on a PIT tag antenna; 4) install and download data from submersible ultrasonic receiver (SUR) devices from Lava Falls to Diamond Creek to detect movement of sonic-tagged razorback sucker from Lake Mead; and 5) release sonic-tagged razorback sucker.

Recipient Involvement:
The GCROA will provide boats and associated equipment, as well as qualified and experienced staff interested in learning about Grand Canyon National Park fisheries biology and conservation.

GCROA staff will purchase and pack all food, provide shuttles of equipment and personnel to/from the launch and take-out site as well as work along with NPS staff in implementing fisheries projects at the work site.

National Park Service Involvement:
Grand Canyon National Park (GCNP) fisheries staff have been substantially involved int he development of this project, including logistical consideration (e.g., timing of the trip, travel times from launch to take-out, coordination with other agenies) and will be involved in the implementation of all field work, loading and unloading of boats, data analysis, and report preparation related to the project at Shinumo Creek.

GCNP fisheries staff have lead the planning of all field activities and GCNP biologist and technicians will work alongside GCROA staff in the field.

NPS bilogists will train GCROA staff in all aspects of the project including project background and conservation issues, field techniques, and the biology and ecology of Grand Canyon and Colorado River fishes.

GCNP has also initiated the process for compliance with all federal requirements (e.g., NEPA, ESA permits) and will be the lead contact in those procedures.
