Restore Habitat to Improve Visitor Experience at Muir Woods and surrounding areas of the GGNRA
This Task Agreement will facilitate collaboration on native plant restoration and natural resources project support at Muir Woods and surrounding areas of the GGNRA.
This collaboration will include propagation and installation of native plants, invasive plant removal, habitat restoration, work tracking and project support.
The expected outcome is to restore habitat in order to improve visitor experience and wildlife viewing opportunities in this highly visited area of the park.
The GGNPC is uniquely qualified to collaborate with the GGNRA on native plant propagation and associated restoration actions.
The GGNPC has been running the native plant nursery program at GGNRA since 199 7. They have expertise in native plant propagation and experience with GGNRA requirements for seed collection.
Additionally, GGNPC staff have extensive experience working with the GGNRA on a variety of planting and invasive plant management projects and are familiar with GGNRA approaches, policies and procedures.
Specifically, GGNPC staff have been working on habitat restoration issues in the Redwood Creek watershed for the last several years and will provide invaluable site-specific expertise.
By partnering with the GGNPC, GGNRA is provided with unique resources, including support from knowledgeable staff and the infrastructure associated with the five native plant nurseries the GGNPC currently manages and support from other GGNPC staff.
This knowledge base, commitment, and synergy with ongoing operations will allow this project to be completed efficiently and successfully.
