Transference of Subsistence Knowledge to the Younger Generation and Between the Communities of Nikolai and Nondalton
This project extends and builds upon the previous Subsistence project entitled Traditional Subsistence Practices and Transference of Knowledge to the Younger Generation.
The objectives for this project are:
1) promote the exchange of contemporary and traditional subsistence practices between Denali (Nikolai) and Lake Clark (Nondalton) communities; 2) facilitate the sharing of subsistence-related traditional knowledge with youth; 3) review the current social science research methods used in Alaska, especially relating to subsistence, and identify what would work for our project and what would not; and 4) develop and implement research methods with a participatory integral approach within the framework of indigenous knowledge.
To date we have conducted and transcribed 24 interviews and developed a draft booklet, maps, and an edited 10-minute video.
