FY17 Supplemental for Short Line Safety Institute Program Development and Implementation

This is a Congressional appropriation to fund the Short Line Safety Institute (Institute), a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is, "to provide the leadership to enhance the safety culture and safety performance of short line and regional railroads through voluntary, non-punitive partnerships."


The Institute's Strategic goals are to enhance and improve safety practices and to increase the short line and regional railroad industry's culture of commitment to safety.

The Institute will address these strategic goals through Four Pillars of activities:
safety culture assessments, education and training, research, and communications.
