The Bureau of Land Management manages natural landscapes to conserve native species and their habitats, and to restore and adapt public lands to impacts originating from climate change and human disturbances.

Through restoration and adaptation, landscapes of the public lands become more resilient


and robust while maintaining essential ecosystem functions and delivering ecosystem services for the public¿s multiple needs and quality of life.

In the face of unprecedented environmental change and increasing human impacts on public lands in California, the BLM remains to committed to ensuring the continued survival of Californias biological diversity.

More than ever, the BLM has cause to avail itself of the expertise of evolutionary biologists, plant and soil scientists, geneticists, ecologists, hydrologists, climatologists, and other experts in natural resource disciplines to provide the scientific basis for managing public lands into the future.
