The purpose of the three-year activity, called Comunidades y Energías Renovables (CER, Spanish acronym), is to encourage a transparent process for renewable energy development, build trust between stakeholders, reduce misinformation and enhance local community engagement and approval of renewable energy
projects.
The goal is to foster a process for renewable energy development that meaningfully, and in a timely manner, engages all stakeholders, including local communities, the Government of Mexico (GOM) (at all levels; federal, state, and municipalities), civil society, and the private sector.
In particular, the activity will help ensure that local communities, especially indigenous communities, are informed early so that they can be included in the planning process.
This will hopefully lessen sources of conflict, emphasize autonomy and enhance the right to self-determination.
