New State Grant Program to Replace Teacher Funded Merit Paychecks

Nearly 18,000 Texas teachers recently received state-funded merit paychecks to end a program being replaced with grants designed to helping instructors at poorer schools improve their skills.


Federal budget cuts in education have led to the Educator Excellence Innovation Program, which begins next year. Lawmakers moved the remaining $24 million earmarked for merit pay to the new Educator Excellence Innovation Program.
