Watertown Police Department in understaffed situation

Despite being an exceptional police department in comparison not only to other Commonwealth agencies but nationally, Police Chief Edward Deveau said that the Watertown Police Department is working short staffed. The department has lost some programs as a result of having smaller staff. By reason of retirements, injuries, leave and other reasons, only 41 officers are available even though the police department can hold up to 47 officers.
