State Grant Helps Niles Flood Victims Recover
Agency - Federal Emergency Management AgencyNiles homes were damaged during the 2008 Hurricane Ike flood. Post-flood, local low-income homeowners received a total of $409,000 to repair and rehabilitate their homes.
Village Manager Steve Vinezeano emphasized the importance of keeping receipts for work done. Seven homeowners also got larger grant assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to fix damages. Vinezeano stressed that if there's a flood, sign up with FEMA, but keep all receipts to obtain larger state funds.
